What Do We Tell Ourselves? Truth or Lie

Truth or Lie?

What Do We Tell Ourselves? Truth or Lie
What Do We Tell Ourselves? Truth or Lie

The lie will not fulfill…

Driven to consider ourselves,
we learn too quickly the deception
we propagate to placate reality’s discomfort,
and in our meagre games
we create far more disharmony
than we could have imagined.

Yet as life ensues,
and our dodging and weaving
creates the paths of our will,
we become entrenched within this paradigm
of self-denial and a molded truth,
and therefore no longer see reality.

Lives of delusion are a parody,
not true and bleeding hopes unfulfilled,
and to a straight eye, a deception dumbfounding,
plainly wanting and as if in a dream,
where truth is labelled our name,
and no more can be seen.

Facing the self, is no mean task,
truth often unwanted, a burden of weight,
yet without it we are connected
to a tenuous thread in life,
and all beauty and values skewed,
looking through the eyes of fear.

All souls are perfect,
it is the process of learning that cause undulations,
and our pendulum lives are far sweeter in truth,
rather than in fear’s hold,
hiding and grasping denial to pacify,
all and sundry for a lie.

Lies and delusion go far in crushing life and joy. I do not live in delusion, nor do I lie, to do so would destroy the beauty I feel within, the love I feel for someone even if not meant to be is my truth. I may find someone else to love in time, but love to me is sacred and will always be part of me. Hmmm – I seem to be writing my own epistle here, Tony, sorry – I must have seen something that triggered something in me. Your piece is written very well with truth. Great work.
