What I Am, Regardless
I am steel, I am butter,
I am a chameleon of states,
a malleable forging of irate necessity:
languid, fluid, raging red inferno,
a mote around my reality,
a promise I cannot keep;
and still I am me,
stretched to extremes and on bended knee,
attesting responses to the world:
my protection, my elation, my probation
from deeds of propagation,
to instill my beliefs about all that I entreat
and relish as worthwhile.
I am trustworthy, noteworthy,
but how many truly know me,
for I am the subjugation
of my needs and recompense fused;
in my swaying, my fraying,
my never-ending questioning,
I am an enigma, my own antagonist
even to myself;
and riding on my pendulum,
the highs and lows of humdrum,
I cannot sit on fulcrums,
its simply the way I am,
in this my toe-jam life.
I am harsh, I am loving,
I am akin to all my brood,
for in the end and then some,
the laughter is clean outcome,
and family is my everything
no matter how crude, or out there I become;
so with all my faults and sates I’m in,
filled with love and often sin,
I just admit that the place I’m in,
is every bit the worth
of all those trials and sorrow born,
of trying to be something else other than myself.

Tony,
Your poem is very courageous and noble. I admire your words, and fearlessness in allowing your vulnerable side to be shared. It is a lovely photograph, too! Hugs.
Thanks Tamara, glad you appreciated my thoughts and expression here. Take care my friend.
Wow ! You just put it all out there with nothing held back, Tony. No wonder I call you friend, you are as honest as they come, and honesty means a lot to me. I love this.
Thanks Phyllis, your kind words very much appreciated. Take care dear friend.
I just admit that the place I’m in,

of trying to be something else other than myself.
How true sir, in my own life as well. Holding back nothing, a tirade of who we are, how I tick, no holds barred. Take me or leave me, I cant be anyone more than who I really am. You said it all here my friend and you definitely know thyself. If more people could drop all their pretentious faces and be their real selves, their world and the one around them would be a much happier place. Thank you for being who you are, a man of worth, a man who cares for humanity, a great poet, who will be remembered for all of who he was, is and will always be for eternity. Bravo, excellent write my poet.
Thank you Vincent, for your kindness and friendship good poet. It is good to share our worlds, for they become one. Take care.
Tony, you know yourself better than anyone and you described yourself in detail without pulling any punches. We are all very complex beings, but also unique. Whatever you have experienced in life both bad and good has shaped the man you are today, and that man is very talented, likeable, and greatly respected by his literary peers. Great writing.
