A Poem For an Old Friend
1.
My friend you stayed on Costa Rican Beach
the coast is richer with your every meal
where fishermen find fish at end of reel
your old home finally out of your reach.
In dense foliage you find place to hide
to talk with Spider Monkeys from treetops
and contemplate this Spring, these many crops
and how your meal planning will be applied.
You have a gift when it comes to our food
this gift you shared upon our desert sand
to give yourself to ensure we were fed.
With delicacies to alter a mood,
brought smiles, upon the faces of this land
and now in Costa Rica you are wed.
2.
A long-standing stable democracy
holds a highly educated work-force
that understands a wise progressive course
avoiding evils of autocracy.
You stand amongst a tribe of newfound friends
somewhere on your tropical paradise
where big cats roam and Tapir seem real nice
the place you settled to contemplate ends.
I pray the world holds you as if a child
to care for you as you cared for my own
return to love within your tropic home.
You dedicated so much through the wild
adolescence that you have now outgrown
I hope you find your place where you now roam.
3.
Your yard provides the coffee I enjoy
from coffee Baron’s hidden within time
the caffeine necessary for this rhyme
do you remember Eli as baby?
Or when we shared our cups of joe in shade
on camping chairs surrounded by children.
We would share our stories of where we’ve been
and what spectacular meals have been made.
So what is the theme of your next event
your delicate hands as you frost a cake
our friendship beyond these chocolate Bon Bons.
Whether you’re on a beach or in a tent
or organizing community bake
no more worries about suburban lawns.

A nicely phrased epistle to an old friend. You express nostalgic memories and lasting friendship. Well done, Jamie.
Thank you Phyllis. Jamie
Nostalgia and cosiness recalling old times with a valued friend. The rhythm is soft and musical, reflecting your thoughts. Lovely!
