Soft Shock of Apples Falling

A.

Spring flowers are babbling

flying embers taking chase

one puts their hands up to face

goodbye world gardens

White Lilies in a black lake

still on Heaven’s windless hill

when trees hold dead seeds in hand

who will save the land?

Earth I cannot say goodbye

you have held me as a child

showed me the greatest valleys

hidden swimming hole

This land says lay low lay low

no one will know when you die

we slowly walk to our jobs

the land says lay low

Always climbing up beanstalks

feel the need to fight old giants

with hopes that dreams will come true

and maybe they will

Soft shock of apples falling

from old trees in the orchard

upon the rocky hilltops

forgotten orchards

B.

Chicken with fresh Rosemary

a pungent leaf under knife

like so many death poems

turn tattered pages

In woods we quarrel and war

over withered Strawberry

darkened and sweetened past noon

hidden from pasture

Your love has become winter

a force gone predatory

fighting against my nature

different story

Once along this windy road

I forced myself all alone

to watch a stalk of wheat bend

slightly in a breeze

As study of hilltops show

religious imagery goes

apex of the average

hill in ratio

This sticky sweet winter sea

a beach of seaweed and pod

replaced by city tallness

lovely city trees

C.

These flowers placed for the dead

along the path I sought her

seem to have wilted with time

so will she love well?

With light Psyche turns to dust

dance no more in narrow shoes

all that you love lies right here

solid patch of ground

With guitar I carry on

heard through eternal silence

no soft footsteps of children

rustling fall leaves

I arrive to the party

too tired to be merry

to glance at newspaper

ominous weather

Darling hard from ragged chill

leave baggage and dry your eyes

be careful you may fall ill

too many tears fall

Your true lover remains this view

and this hilltop will fight time

to plan for eternity

a love that will stay
