Here Comes Stormy Weather

I

An angry storm dark with death

breaks through a silent heat

these dark clouds of grace bend plow

tears of mother Fall

I gaze upon sudden dream

splendor of golden lightning

rain comes in the wake of flame

a wet messenger

Sun and stars hidden from sea

storms secret footstep silenced

smell sweet presence of thunder

a riot of wind

“No worry there is no storm.”

Neighbors tell us at the store

“Go home then go to bed.”

Typhoon knocks at door

An axe of iron sword black

rises above the grey clouds

brings powerful wind and rain

upon this world’s pain

Behold terrible beauty

sky trembles from a release

ground opens mantle of thirst

rain fall harp music

II

Raindrops dance as small darlings

lightning strikes at a center

sky opens and wind runs wild

to jump leaf to leaf

Tempest that shakes and wakes life

sweeps over us like laughter

clouds no longer idle saw

morning floods the dust

A play of color on clouds

winds sends chorus of voices

all the sweet things we have known

grabbed by greedy hand

Ask neighbor to share lantern

tell of the darkness of storm

neighbor lifts lantern to clouds

sacrifices light

In the sky reigns the stainless

steel radiance of lightning

no day no night storm takes form

stands with arms outstretched

This storm tossed lost and broken

rain rushes will not stop

no second to look behind

rush not holding back

III

Pour various colored rain

to fill fragrant earth to brim

no illusions in this storm

water to ripen

This day gives way to shadow

evening water sad music

no one shall live here again

no one will return

Waters of life begin flood

fear moves men to shrink away

from an assembly in sky

chorus breaks the world

Carry this stormy sorrow

when wakened by loud thunder

followed by lightning’s vapor

useful clouds fill sky

Fill this fleeting emptiness

paint with grey color of wind

melt and vanish in the dark

old transparency

Time seems endless in this storm

wind opens and closes gate

we hide under a table

too poor to be late
