Light…the beginning of change
We need to change…
This simple poem I wrote over thirty years ago and still, it represents my mission as a writer and poet. No matter how complex the issue or topic, light to me is the ultimate answer. Being the opposite of darkness, light today is even more important than when I wrote this poem. There is much darkness in the world, much suffering and pain, all caused by our disregard for light, the positive manifestation of love, acceptance, compassion, empathy and kindness. Most of my poetry leans toward that end and my path has not changed in all these years.
The poem, simply entitled ‘Light’, has remained one of my all time favorite works: simple, straight forward and with an earnest hope that the world adopts this stand for right and the transformation that love evokes.
Light

All star-crossed with hallowed light
by night on lonely trail,
we of peace on destined path
do follow oar and sail.
We stood before all empty then
with candles hushed by night,
but now our world is crystal clear,
with but our candle light.
