We Are Not Islands

We Are Not Islands
We Are Not Islands

Not Islands but Connection…

Be as it may
the ragged paths of wanton souls,
bereft of direction,
immersed in their whole of life,
as if in four-mirrored walls,
that reflect the face of four contrary sides,
yet only one soul resides,
the focus of a stagnant mind.

Complicity abides this drive,
unattached and nowhere else to hide,
as life does pass them by,
looking themselves in the eye
and seeing little else,
the four walls of their fears derived,
a self-reliant protection,
and a shallow view of self alone.

Life cannot be lived without connection,
and in protection we may shield ourselves
from every possibility afforded,
hoarded self and sealed heart tombs,
cannot live life or of light consume
our potential, instead,
the self an isolated thing,
giving nothing but a reflection to the world.

Fear may dictate omission,
but hearts cannot survive without decision
to accept others as yourself,
relate and propagate thoughts of alliance,
defiance but a pointless act of attrition,
when love our greatest gift,
waits until a soul leaves its nest
to manifest change and the acceptance of sharing.
