My Friend Sleep
My Friend Sleep …
Last night being weary,
I tried so hard to find, my friend sleep,
but it seemed he’d gone away.
We used to have such good times,
just he and I catching up on a dream or two.
Sailing away on soft white clouds,
while soft lullabies whisper
and I fly away to dreamland.
Then suddenly in the late hours,
I find my muses singing in my ears.
They must have made sleep go away
and it seems like they are here to stay.
Imaginative thoughts,
like musical notes,
march through my mind.
With pen in hand I jot,
while the muses sing,
all of their words,
loud and clear they ring.
Now when I lay down,
I feel so very sad and alone.
Inspiration now done,
the muses flying back toward the skies,
my friend sleep no longer comes,
mind active and thoughts running wild.
Some cozy, warm and dark winter’s day,
I hope to find my friend sleep once more.
Then through the dark, gray days,
he and I can dream together
and neither of us will be sad and alone anymore.
Leaving the nights for inspiration
and the songs of the muses.

It seems true poets find most of their inspiration at night when the muses come to sing. I hope you find your friend sleep and get enough ‘rest well’ time, Rasma. Very nicely penned verse, well done.
Thank you Phyllis.
Sleep it seems is abandoning many of us, what with our creative drive, the state of the world and our personal lives at the forefront of thought. My son told me this morning I’ve been talking in my sleep (loudly) and I’ve never done that before. I too find sleep difficult most nights. Ah, for to dream would be a welcomed release. Nightmares unwanted. Nicely penned and related Rasma. Cheers!
Thank you Tony.
I seemed to have forgotten what sleep looked like this last month. What a great poem to turn sleep into a long lost friend. I hope your muses give you a chance to play with sleep again.
Thank you Tammy.
