The oil
Black gold
Bubbling, gushing
Spilling from the depths
Control
Nothing less
Wars
Speeches
Headlines screaming
Everything
And absolutely nothing
It’s all a diversion, man
Don’t buy the tea
It’s all about the oil
He said, she said
Posturing and prophesizing
Analysts analyzing
Sellers selling
Contracts, shorts, puts, options
We know it’s true
They say, no way
We laugh
They smile
Hundreds die
No one really cares
At least until now
Bombs falling
Missiles flying
Shots heard round the world
Round the boardrooms
At the pump
When the boats stop
The world stops
No mo flow
Time to go
Send more guns
Drop more bombs
The oil makes the rules
Watch the markets
The maps
Pipelines
And the flow
The money of course
Underground
Up pops a town
Rigs and men
How it begins
Another source
Another course
Temper tantrum
In the Middle East
People starve
To feed the beast
The slick black gold
It’s the oil
Last man standing
It could happen
Rattling blades
Triggers pulled
In the mood
Control the crude
Reliance
Dependence
Fossil fuels
Still make the rules
So many lives
And we’re still stuck here
The oil owns us
Master of all we see
All we know
Watch it flow
Come and go
