The Final Frontier or A Superhighway of Cosmic Wonders

Out there, the great beyond, the final frontier
Galaxies, star clusters, solar systems
A superhighway of cosmic wonders awaits
And humanity still without the technology
Too busy fighting amongst ourselves
Squabbles over tiny tracts of desert land
Treaties expired a thousand years ago
What kind of light bulbs we use
And trying to decide who’s allowed to love who
That separation is what keeps us grounded
Not in the groovy spiritual way
But in the lift-off and travel way
While we sit on our porches and balconies
Thinking about what’s out there
Eyes fixed to the tiny pinpoints of light
The universe keeps breathing, keeps expanding
A great ocean fire and silence, carefully spaced
The cosmic ballet, one as patient as time itself
Imagine what we could hope to see
If only we abandoned those porches and balconies
Got over ourselves and worked together
All great minds with one singular focus
To get us into the cosmic game
Write the stories of humanity
Light speed holds many secrets, some more ancient than we
And stars are not always distant things
Some have faded long ago; the light is all that remains
Old suns whispering, I was here and I mattered
It’s time they matter to us, to everyone
If not now, then when, or ever
Worlds await our exploration
And yet, we do nothing; our focus isn’t there
The final frontier is out of reach but by our choosing
We’ve set our sights on little things
Closer things like the moon and mars
Divided, we’re in this great race
But never seeing the truth of the prize
Somewhere, dust is deciding to become a planet
A dying star scatters and fades away
Collisions, constellations, and cosmic wonders
Our telescopes touch the edge but just barely
We are a part of this great thing
Each of us belongs, and we always have belonged
Not outsiders looking outward
More like players waiting on the sidelines
To most just a thought of what might be
We need to be bold, be as one
Let curiosity become reality
What lies out there is not just infinity
It is an invitation to come out and play
A superhighway of cosmic wonders

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all. I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed. I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another. I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me. I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.
