Brain Rot – Scroll, Scroll, and Scroll Some More

You scroll, scroll, and then doom scroll some more,
Your hand is cramped, your fingers sore,
Through pictures, stories, your dopamine drip,
While brain cells dissolve with every click.
The world outside is bright and gold,
Yet here they sit, both young and old,
Seduced by the noise of influencer fame,
Romanced by ghosts who have no names.
And now the AI faces, none are real,
Technology driven, the great turning wheel,
Sometimes its envy, pride, or a hollowed cheer,
We chase those connections yet never get near.
The memes on repeat, the old marketing spin,
Like a mental vacuum that pulls from within,
Laugh tracks embedded, the tales must be sold,
Our souls gladly traded, for likes we can’t hold.
The feed like a drug, it’s a sweet siren’s song,
It whispers of new content just to pull us along
And so anchored we stay, through the night and the day,
Outside was a promise that we’ve again thrown away.
Once art was a passion, words of verse carried weight,
Now algorithms searching trends decide what we create,
What we thought we once knew now a virtual lie,
Sight proven truths, now reduced to a “why?”
Our prefrontal cortex, on the shelf, left to fade,
Inspiration and creation, left to waste and decay,
Today we scroll for pleasure, tomorrow we’ll scroll for pain,
No matter why we scroll, the results are the same.
The sun keeps on rising, the moonlit night returns,
Glowing screens keep on glowing, the need always burns,
What once was a wonder, new thoughts, and fresh dreams,
Now available with filters, on your digital screen,
The world outside is open wide, yet somehow, we forget,
There’s this other life, one beyond the internet.
We beg you all to close that tab, step out, be free,
The world is waiting for you; won’t you try to see?
Let silence bloom where generated noise once stayed,
And take back your truth, or it shall forever fade

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all. I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed. I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another. I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me. I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.
