Riding the Timberline

I know that’s what people say-you’ll get over it. I’d say it, too. But I know it’s not true. Deep down inside those that say it, also know it is not true. When it’s gone, you’ll know what a gift of love was. You’ll suffer the loss, mourn the loss, and remember the loss. Never fear, one day you’ll be happy again. But you will never forget, never truly get over it. Every time you fall in love, it will be because something in that person reminds you of the one you lost.
Riding the Timberline
Riding the timberline nowhere, to parts unknown,
Yesterday, buried my dreams of you, now all alone.
There is no love like lost love, no pain like a broken heart,
The hurt was real, saddled up, for the timberline I depart.
Memories of you, of us. Will they forever haunt me?
Over the mountains, into valleys, through the dust, I flee.
Those we love don’t go away; they sit beside us every day.
Riding the timberline to forget, to get out of the memory’s way.
When love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure,
Missing you, missing us, missing what was now, to my displeasure.
Riding the timberline, I no longer see the diamonds in the sky.
High above in the heavens, the angels now just pass me on by.
Above the world so high on top of the mountain, and all alone.
Close my eyes, memories flood, wishing I could make atone.
Some moments in life, there are no words, just a memory or two,
Riding the timberline never saw the end of us. Who knew?
Riding the timberline nowhere, to parts unknown,
Yesterday, buried my dreams of you, now all alone.
