Practice the Art of Seeing

1.

The growth of America

movement of populations

prosperities illusion

intoxication

We are under the same law

rocks, plants, everyman

only long roots of consumption

rates of consumption

Need to slow down quite a bit

to witness all these changes

the chrysalis of a moth

the book of nature

Marginal notes and references

genial ground underfoot

a moment of sympathy

a congregation

Quietness holds a power

sees fertility and depth

human life and character

room for smaller sound

Inexhaustable storehouse

moth cocoon and feeding snakes

a pleasure in minute things

a conservation

2.

Practice the art of seeing

breaking of rock into soil

grand due to its resource

drama of wild bees

Must take risks of being stony

hold onto land while it heals

build homes near every crop

stop mass production

Scour trees around your home

multiple times until bare

winter birds will find a home

a place to hide seed

Burin Petral Greyback Fern

wingspan of the Albatross

one hundred thousand bleached bones

adorn rich man’s plate

Land always engulfed by flame

funnels of thick greyish smoke

oily residue on land

a dangerous art

Here refining their bleaching

oil residue toxic fumes

so long without any care

we create these hells

3.

Time before pushing nature

further and further away

there had to be at least one

who did not agree

Passenger pigeon would feed

a poor family for a month

biblical bird of beauty

no longer exists

Certain places empty sky

no more sound of morning wings

songs no longer lead seasons

nests built with fresh twigs

Imagine thoughts of the last

Passenger Pigeon in flight

looking for a flock now gone

or for its lost mate

Metaphor of creation

move towards great creation

a constantly varied task

happens to be now

Look outside into nature

seasonal teas create

a terminal bud of growth

to live to create
