Distraction, You See

A sleight of hand, a trick you see

That’s the way it has to be

Their minds are weak, and so we prey

For many years, that’s been the way

Thoughts are scripted, then encrypted

We burn them deep, like scars, you see

Sometimes hope, then others gloom

Stories of the coming doom

A list of lies, and finger pointing

Who will fall, and who we’re appointing

No matter what we choose, we call it news

Makes it seem like facts, you see

What’s really true, well that doesn’t matter

We’ve taught them just to hear the chatter

Social media, and video sites

Tight dressed teens, with lots of lights

Dance and grind, it’s sealed and signed

Then watch ‘em share, just wait, you see

A single story from a single source

Watch and wait, the chosen course

Across the world, and the hours few

Nodding heads pretend they knew

Some lives are ravaged, people savaged

Sacrifices must be made, you see

Distraction means we always win

Change the past from how it’s been

Spreading hate and true division

But just enough, a planned precision

No concern if a few streets burn

Violence works for us, you see

We want the cities like pressure cookers

Camera’s filming, crowds of lookers

Make a villain a troubled child

A single spark and the crowd goes wild

We’ll stage a killing, the public willing

Then no one’s watching us, you see

The great charade, the grand distraction

While behind the smoke, the real attraction

There’s money moving, in stacks so high

Drain the bank, yes drain it dry

The tax you pay, well it makes our day

Those cars and yachts, they don’t come free

We own the most, but not them all

The little group, that just won’t fall

The thinking ones, who can’t be socialized

Coerced, controlled, or bribed otherwise

We try to shame, call them names

Cancellation works, it must you see

We can’t have all you people thinking

Questioning our backdoor winking

Asking where the money goes

Secrets we don’t want exposed

Or any inspection, of any election

Those votes we count are ours, you see

Power feeds our need for lust

So, we do, what it is we must

Divert, distract, and control your mind

Bring vision to the color blind

Stirring the pot, feeding the rot

Protected up above, you see

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all. I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed. I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another. I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me. I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.
