Longing to Go Home Again

Longing to go Home Again …

They say you can never go home again,

but if the heart longs for a place,

that it has known all its life,

then feet have no choice –

but to stray that way.

Even though nothing might look the same

and the faces and names have changed,

walking along familiar boulevards and avenues,

let the winds of change –

blow you back into the past again.

As you go along,

let your imagination take over

and you’ll be like you once were,

back then when this was home.

No mirror to remind you,

of how time has gone by

and like Alice through the looking glass –

can you not see all that once went before?

I can imagine myself as a child,

such innocence is worthwhile,

walking with friends,

as laughing teens –

growing up came much too soon

or so it seems.

My mind brings back many wonderful images,

when I’m longing to go home again.

As you go walking along,

it will seem like yesterday once more

and you’ll see what you wanted to see –

fill your heart with memories.

That is the only way you can go home again,

when your heart begins aching

and you’re longing to return.

Time passes

and time changes so much,

only the love and the shadows of things that have been,

remain and forever in your heart shine,

so stray back whenever you have a mind to,

you’ll find yourself on Memory Lane,

because if you truly want to –

you can go home again.
