The Art of Steppingstone

The Art of Steppingstone
A.
Go among the trees
the world will find its stillness
on each steppingstone
when ripples on water stop
for a second find nothing.
Sometimes stone is slick
slippery with green algae
proceed with caution
within a step one could fall
far into an icy depth.
Steppingstone pathway
answered prayer for direction
through a thick bleak dark
a black negotiation
‘toward the end of the all’ Sabbath.
Days resurrection
opens up the dirt’s Sabbath
there is some and none
all here among these dried leaves
many types of detriment.
Steppingstone Sabbath
rising up through quick water
only way forward
through sweat and tears of hard life
the return is profound joy.
Only way to light
rest, work, hope and take next step
cross lonely river
reflected light is bread crumbs
must hold on to every smile.
B.
Each steppingstone vein
like vein of a light filled leaf
reflective water
heaven’s illumination
reason running into woods.
Navigate these stones
last step will lead into light
simple act stepping
beyond the trials of river
away from here into there.
Move through moving tune
as you hum with every step
meaningful music
gift given to manage pain
created from feeling too much.
Here is ruin’s place
slightly to the left of stone
collection of rot
month old leaves caught in water
to mulch within each eddy.
C.
Frost falling on grass
could never be called a curse
all reflective light
including light in ourselves
fragments of hope near each stone.
Dragonfly flutter
companions to cross river
carried on light talk
as it hovered near my face
I will miss the company.
Hymnal of splashed stone
where infinity will step
here good will remain
small good things like sprout from seed
boot placement on steppingstone.
Understand ones want
to crave complication of rhyme
make the final step
cross river never return
head upwards toward cliff face.
A Sabbath of home
place to be invisible
lost near steppingstone
to sing along song to song
place one finds themselves alone.

The steppingstones of life is what I see in this poem. We do our best to take each step carefully and continue by following our heart and intuition. Very well penned. I love it!
Man this is good stuff Jamie. Another poem that really gives me a serene feeling while I’m reading it. Nice work.
Gives you goosebumps as you walk along those stones. So much wonder in the simple things, that gets missed most of the time.
Thank you Phyllis, Paul, and Ralph. Jamie
