The Art of Dodoitsu

I.

Double meaning hidden deep

pivotal turn into a pun

poetry of Royalty

a diving beauty.

Echoes of repetition

peculiar device meanings

remember pitch of vowel

sings each pillow song.

Dodoitsu considered

to be intolerable

too much alliteration

way too much rhyming.

II.

It is said near the summit

is a place where the snow melts

then falls and gathers again

when snow melts once more.

I passed a drainage ditch

noticed snowfall on Peavine

a white blanket of winter

falling on Reno.

Notice collection of grey

multiple clouds bring cold rain

possibility of snow

do not feel alone.

Winter fallen on desert

dilapidated cabin

alone in snow and sagebrush

no one will visit.

Tomorrow I had spring plans

to lay some sod and work on lawn

a storm brought snow inches thick

yesterday today.

Moonlight brought the winter’s dew

freeze surface of many lakes

spread glow upon a white world

this new winter world.

III.

While Cicada sing loudly

along the valley shadow

single line of blackened night

all constellations.

A beautiful reflection

like dew set a foot by breeze

a sudden sight of brilliance

balance in this life.

Went to marsh to pull Cattails

found happiness in tall reed

every marchland bloom

decided to stay.

Upon the Black Rock Desert

the moonlight creates silence

most birds of night will not sing

only Cicada,

IV.

Projecting old memories

of you and things we would do

when considering these times

happier today.

Luckily our memory

lasts longer than memory must

to exist then sublimate

something different.

I wish to be close to you

like pine tree caressing the wind

streams slowly erode the Earth

think of you always.

I will never wait again

our meeting would be better

if we would have slept and dreamt

moved slow like the moon.

If once the vault of heaven

opened up upon the stars

I can hold onto my love

for one more minute.

From the beauty of nature to the beauty of love memories. I enjoyed this dodoitsu, Jamie. The form is perfect and flows nicely. I also love the picture of the bells. Well done.

Nice work Jamie. Tough to stay in the 7-7-7-5 form of a dodoitsu poem but you did a good job of it. Nice connection to winter as well. Good work.
