Years to become stone
Years to become stone …
No touch of kindness upon this shoulder
nor spoken wisdom to calm
No tears to open up the flood gates
no spoken love as soothing balm
Nor the erasing of visions to become memories
etched in stone forever more
Why then these hours of grieving this numbness
not there before
Let these memories die once and for all
these pains scab over again and again
Until friends perhaps a loved one
should bring that day an end
For wisdom’s best is yet to come and he should
speak much of this not less
For stone becomes a comfortable blanket
won’t keep him warm at best
Tragedy has a way of growing hard inside the soul
oh do not count the years
A young boy yet matures inside himself
silence attests to his untended tears
Worry not for the silence of the old men
forgive it soonest within the evening
But in the child look for a way to end
his broken heart his silent grieving
