WILL NO ONE DRINK WITH ME?

1.) A Glass of Wine

Will no one laugh?  Will no one drink with me?

I will teach you how to once again care

you look like you need a moment to spare

have a drink with me and fall into sea.

Do not ask if this is a trick or a joke

love both as I pour you a glass of wine

if you quickly finish yours please have mine

and soon they’ll call us both a Whiskey soak.

A sigh and a kiss the booze makes me blush.

hey look here!  Look here!  You listen to me

a time will come when laughter turns to song.

Heavens your lovely your alcohol flush

tonight we are busting out gettin’ free

be blind tonight and time will heal all wrong.

2.)  Single Malt

Never blame booze it is always your fault.

Hey there, no fighting or you must get out!

Instead sing chorus with your swill and shout

not good at this must switch to a Malt.

Please stand by the speakers and feel the bass

let large empty vault echoes fill the place

ignore the fact you have lost all your grace

to think you may have broken ancient vase.

Your voice angelic beauty for first time

meet at the crossroads and drink to bring light

to drink the swill that robs us of our guts.

Though song is wretched it has some good rhyme

so blessed by this gift of double sight

be careful to not fall into road’s ruts.

3.) 80% Proof

In morning you will beg yourself to quit

for some reason you woke up in squalor

empty wallet not even a dollar

with such a pounding headache ears will split.

A time is needed to sweat out poison

since recovery is a proper art

ignore the need to heal and let us start

have a drink let’s continue our passion.

Once wet and bloated and ready to flop

and now a hangover to vex the boys

to hardly remember those shouts and screams.

Unlike the pig that feeds off its own slop

a child who no longer cares about toys

with a drink this world is not as it seems.

4.) Pint of Beer

Scratch shiny top rub potbelly for beer

when all your ill luck becomes mild and tame

ignoring problems is part of the game

to feel the burn is to live without fear.

Above all else this jolly company

to show you once again life can be fun

not everything’s dying under the sun

as we keep drinking towards one too many.

Come to this bottle everyday a feast

there is no wit here just boisterous noise

there maybe drinking but on narrow trails.

At time one howls like drunk demented beast

amazing what this alcohol destroys

with empty cocktail glasses at our tails.

Still sober I would never break over ten year streak. Thank you Phyllis and Ralph for leaving a comment. This was fun to write. Jamie

Nice work on this poem, Jamie. I only drink on special occasions when family come to visit…like Christmas.

Nice work Jamie. Love the rhyme scheme in this one. I used to drink heavily as though some sort of challenge, going through some of the scenarios you’ve excellently described. I now like John drink on occasions. Great work. ~Paul
