Standin’ Here Frozen in Time
Introduction to Poem and Explanation:
Looking down from a tall office building…nothing obstructing my view North for miles…Clear to Dallas. The only thing I see is where my Dad used to work. This is my first memory of where he used to work when I was a kid. The tall building where I am currently working…looks down on top of where my Dad used to work. From the same building, I can see another building where I use to work, as well. All of these buildings are within a Big City Block. How many times over the years have I driven by my Dad’s old building? The first place…of many…that I knew he went to work each day. I’m seeing it clearly right now. It is there frozen in time…just like my Dad is. I’m just: “Standin’ Here…Frozen in Time”.
Video: This Poem is set to the tune of Merle Haggards’: “If I Could Fly Away”
This is a Poem about being at work…and looking down at an older building where my Dad used to work…and imagining seeing my Dad leaving work…many years ago.

Poem Title:
Standin’ Here Frozen in Time
I’m just standin’ here…frozen in time…
Looking down from on high…with you on my mind.
The Sun is equal with my eyes…up in this office lobby…
Houston…as far as you can see…stretched out in front of me.
It is a Blue Sky today…very pretty…but we could use some rain…
I look down at where you used to work…with some heartfelt pain.
You know it’s getting late…coming up on 5 o’clock…kind of late for the afternoon…
I bet 50 years ago…you were clearing off your desk…ready to head home soon.
I think I can see…your Blue Chevelle heading out of the parking lot…
I wonder…how many years have now gone by…down there…and somehow…I just forgot.
Forgot…of younger days…frozen in time…that transpired back through some old photos…
Old Songs…Old Baseball Gloves…Camping Trips…Mowing the Grass each week as it grows.
Would you have been leaving work…to drive out to a Soccer practice of mine?
Driving through the very little traffic of long ago…on what is now a hectic HW 59.
I see you down there…and I don’t even have to close my eyes to dream…
I see you down there…I see right through the walls into your old workplace…it would seem.
I see you from behind your desk…standing to leave…and loosening your tie…
So short a time…for so long ago…our paths almost cross…except for the time…that’s gone by.
Looking down…I’m just standin’ here…frozen in time…
Time…that has me here frozen…like a clock that can’t wind.
We almost share some things the same…if you cut through the years…my thinking is…
Looking out the window…you seem like you’re here…or at least…right now I’m thinking this.
How simple and understandable are the times that you were around…
Long, Long before…I had to witness you being laid into the ground.
Should I be sad…to see you down there leaving from work…in a time far from now…
I’m just standin’ here…frozen in time…and my time with you came back as a gift…somehow.
The End.

Very emotional poem. I felt at times like I was standing up there with the narrator and feeling empathy for their loss. Jamie
