Self-Reflection, Shattering the Myth of Your Own Reality

Eyes wide open in a candid moment

Opening the doorway, ever so slightly

Peering into the enormous expanse

It’s filled with light, sound, and energy

The sacred place called self-reflection

A little wider and then a tilted stare

Trying to grasp what lies in store

Uncertainty and trepidation for sure

Step through; but only if you are ready

There’s no one there to guide you

Just you and your willingness to see

No shield nor mask to hide behind

Therein lies your ever-building fear

Facing the music of your own existence

You cannot lie and you cannot pretend

The events of your life are waiting

You see, self-reflection is self-examination

A surgical intrusion into the reasoning

Conjecture finally brought to completeness

Facts are facts and fiction does not exist

Here you contemplate your every thought

Each decision and each division

Your future poised on the precipice

Self-judgement becomes self-awareness

You see the makings of your own beliefs

Where the influence lies and also why

Your moral compass never wavering

Truth, fact, deception, and illusions

Reckoning is taking full responsibility

The shroud of every persona lifted

Discover what and who you really are

Focus on where you are and want to be

Unless you’d rather not take the step

Continue living in a state of complacency

Believing in your own colorful curtain

Blocking because of the possible difficulties

And vocalizing that which you call indignity

It is easier to yell and an empty room

Than slowly fill it with the righteous things

Extracting happiness and truly living

But that is purely your decision

Continue being a part of the failing system

Or grasp your inner beauty and display it

It takes strength and a great testament of will

For there will be demons to vanquish

Hardened truths to face and accept

The journey will be life-changing

And once taken, permanent and fulfilling

In the moment of wavering

Remember that you are the only one

To decide if you are ready to face your fear

Shatter the myth, once and for all

And fully engage in self-reflection

self-reflection

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all. I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed. I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another. I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me. I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.
