The Drums of War
Once a whisper, now a pounding
Again, the drums of war are sounding
Troops are marching, charging, forging ahead
In their wake the dying and dead
The haunting sounds of tank treads clanking,
Horrifying sights of troop columns flanking
Warplanes screeching in the skies
Steadfast without a compromise
Sending rockets, missiles, bombs, and guns
While mothers cry, praying for their sons
The youth will suffer, their lives mean nothing
Falling and screaming beneath the crushing
Cannon fodder for a tyrant’s invasion
One unprovoked and unabashedly brazen
The drums of war are beating louder
Fueled by death and the smoke of powder
Watching the civilians fleeing, people bleeding
While across the world humanitarians pleading
Their calls for peace or an open door
Drowned out by the drums of war
Petty sanctions by corrupt world leaders
While the disgusting media become cheerleaders
Negative news generates lots of cash
Spin and spin to gin up the clash
A single rocket becomes a dozen
The body count, a full-page discussion
Lots and lots of speculation
Intelligence failures and the real causation
A modern-day grab of the fertile lands
Soon to be under their command
We all know it’s a weakness of our administration
The pain will be felt at the filling station
Follow the money and you will find the blame
But don’t dare publish or say their names
Markets falling, oil prices rising
The drums of war destabilizing
We’re on the brink of a global crisis
A hundred time worse than the threats of ISIS
Hardened troops with a harder commander
Suddenly acting like Alexander
The days and weeks ahead will tell
A resolution or several years of hell
Watch this hand while the other is sleight
Other tyrants putting planes in flight
With no one there to snuff this spark
The future of the world look dark
