Along a Texas Beach

Walking out along a quiet beach…only movement is little crabs dashing.
Waves roll in…and lightly come to a stop…in slow motion.
The Sun mirror reflects as it starts its way up above the Ocean.
The soft wet sand feels great under your bare feet…
Walking along…for miles…where the forces of Land and Sea meet.
Quiet thoughts you have in your head…
Are extinguished by the slight rumble of waves rolling in…instead.
Walking past an old fishing pier piling that a Brown Pelican sits upon…frozen still…in a pre-flight stance…
I holler: “Hey, Old Man Pelican…I’m not trying to invade your space…don’t give me that snobbish glance!”
The Clear Blue Sky is breaking through…No clouds around…
Feet crunching on tiny seashells mixed in with the ground…
Very few People are up and around…
Not much else is happening really…nowhere to be found.
A Shrimp boat is passing me slowly by…less than a mile or so…out…
Trawling its nets off both sides of the ship…then it turned and came about.
There’s a couple of dolphins…following the boat very close …
Grabbing fish jumping out of the nets…a wise trick…the dolphin knows.
Surf Cast fisherman….out on the Sand bar…casts his line amongst a morning hue…
Of Orange-ish-Rose colored Sky…down low on the horizon…layered in with some Blue.
The water is brown…but it is familiar…for sure…you wouldn’t expect any other color…
Just ’cause the Ocean ain’t Blue out there…don’t make this beach something…that’s any duller.
Sea Gulls caw out over head…as they fly real fast…past me in a “wing-tight” squadron formation…
Flying fast to somewhere…with no Airline Ticket needed to reach their chosen beach destination.
You are so much a part of me…Gulf of Mexico…much more than I fully understand…
It is the way of things…from days spent along you…from past boyhood to a much older man…
And walk…each time…along your shoreline…with bare feet across your Sand…
And know that I am so much a part of you…Muddy Beach Water…who waves to me…nearby on Land.
Why do I fill my mind with questions as to why I care about an ‘ol Brown Gulf Coast…Really Why?
It’s no time for a mental debate between myself and this Land…I shouldn’t even start to try.
You are the place I come to get away…I have always enjoyed being here beside you…along your waters…
And have had some great Memories beside you…with my whole family…from back when to present granddaughters.
I pray that I will always be able to watch a Sunrise begin…amongst the sandy brown Sea…full of Ocean noises…
Life doesn’t always bring me out to you…Life is full of so many other demands…and a multitude of choices.
But for now…I am away from those places…and here is where my feet make a path through the Sand…
To walk … Along a Texas Beach…these are the kind of times that you must live life fully…as much as you can.

I could feel the sea air, hear the sounds, see the waves – very well phrased poem, Steve. I felt like I was right there on the beach. Well done.

Thank you for that, Jamie…Really appreciate that. Thank you for reading this one about a walk “Along a Texas Beach”.
I can hear the waves gently crashing as I read this to myself. I agree that life doesn’t always allow us the precious time to get to the beach but when it does, it is always time well spent in tranquility. Although I do hate stepping in jagged seashells, lol I take the overwhelming good with the bad at the beach. Nice work ~Paul
I know I hate the jagged edges and little spines on seashells too. When your walking along in your bare feet and enjoying the wet, cool sand. But usually, the seashells are mushed down flat into the sand “Along a Texas Beach”. Which makes it a rare occurrence to find a nice sized one-worthy to display upon the shelf. But, they are out there. Thank you for reading this one and for your great comment.
Love this. Great imagery and phraseology. It was just like being there, sauntering along that sandy shoreline.
Thanks for an excellent read.

Wonderful writing, Steve. I have spent many an hour strolling along the beach, and you captured the feelings and senses very well. I felt like I was there.
Thank you, John. It is always great to spend time out along the beach…where the low rumble of the waves drowns out the noise that any ‘ol “Big City” makes…and from the many concerns that one may have in their head. I hope your strolls along your Beach will always bring much Peace to you. Thank you for reading and commenting on this walk “Along a Texas Beach”!
