The Red Pyramid, A Journey Down Below

The wide expanse

Surrounding desert

The Red Pyramid rises

Narrows

And but a small part

Opens

From up to down

Down beneath

The entranceway whispers

Of the thousands before

Each came to go down

Down below the ground

Each step,

Another step,

Many steps,

We’re headed down

Somewhere ancient

Down below the ground

The darkened corridor

Narrow and foreboding

No room for error

Squares of limestone

All around and down

Beautiful rusty reddish hues

Aged by the centuries

Yet still remain

Twenty seven degrees

Going down

In a space three by four

Two-hundred feet

Possibly more

Going down, down, down

One step and then another

Your mind opening

The energy rising

Another step

Further down

Descending

Or perhaps ascending

The sudden feeling

Temperature changing

A sacred wind

Suddenly released

Now circulating

One breath

The breath of all

Our visions

Singular

And the down stops

My eyes seek

Inner chamber walls

Ancient script

Cold

Staring in silence

Reflections

I’m seeking something

The source

Why so far down

Under the desert ground

The energy

Watch the eyes

See what they’ve seen

History imagined

Or so it seems

But the down time

Is no longer

Time to travel

Up, I’m afraid

It seems much quicker

Perhaps with a gentle push

From the spirits below

Sending us to the light

To the land

Another opportunity

New memories

Waking dreams

Ancient knowledge

Pyramid magic

Energy

Under the ground

The Red Pyramid

Red Pyramid

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all. I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed. I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another. I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me. I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.
