A Turtle Island Christmas
A Turtle Island Christmas
A
Heron in Cypress
with red and green ornament
strands of bright LED light
whorling colors scene
embolden the blackened night
reminders of season.
San Fransisco stacks
bellow thick smoke into sky
cover all whispering clouds
hide Santa’s movement
the vast vague white Northern Star
that draws us like moth to light.
A dog catches mice
a black man serves hot coffee
from green and red coffee cart
held firm by mitten
to blow steam in this cold air
enjoy a warm cup of joe.
Wastewater in bay
is drowned out by tonight’s noise
gathering Christmas parade
pointed Santa hats
line the avenue tonight
to close major thoroughfare.
B
Two worlds touch and greet
Poinsettia of the body
Mandala of Christmas birds
down warm in the hand
LED to light our bones
watching this shiny heaven.
I dream of soft white
Christmas Trees grow from my chest
gathered news of sky and sea
tablecloth linen
with embroidered Christmas theme
beginning of snow flurries.
All of us tonight
together with ones we love
twining through knotted pine
glance of newborn faun
avalanche of Holiday
a stand to hold Christmas Tree.
To hear Santa’s sleigh
a creek falls in far valley
mixed with wind whistle Aspen
to hear the sleigh bells
echo through a glacier’s scar
to land upon riverbank.
C
With yellow dust cloud
from tires the truck searches
up near the forest snow line
a Christmas Tree waits
a boy begins to wonder
if Northern Star will reach top.
An old tractor sits
with decorated pine wreath
dancing of the prairie dogs
ranch hands do their chores
frost thick on wooden fence post
warm Christmas meal waits inside.
Near central power
of our Nation’s Capital
strands of people’s Christmas
light up Washington
this world does as it pleases
Season’s illumination.
Snows of yesteryear
a Christmas in Mexico
all of North America
or maybe in Spain
a Turtle Island Christmas
an end to Christmas poem.

Merry Christmas, Jamie. I was right there with you as I read your Poem…Looking around at everything on Turtle Island that was on display for the Christmas Season…with a warm “Cup of Joe” warming my gloved hands. Well Done. Enjoyed it…and Wishing Everyone and Everything on Turtle Island…A “Merry Christmas”…as well!
Jamie, thank you for sharing this Turtle Island Christmas. I enjoyed reading of the search for the perfect tree. Christmas here is at the hottest time of the year so I can’t relate to how cold it must be in thqat part of the world, but your words help me imagine it.
I hope you guys had a great holiday and a Happy New Years! Thank you Steve and John for the support and the kind comments. Jamie
