Where the “Tractor” Rides Away…

I have been in the “Big City” for far too long…

My heart and my mind look for an old familiar song.

I’m not saying I had my share of bad times here…

I ain’t saying it’s been the best of times…let’s make that clear.

Life gives you what you need…sometimes Life knows more than us.

I really never thought I’d come back to Houston…when I got off that bus.

But that is all just water under the bridge…

I want to spend my Golden Years…on a porch…on top of some ridge.

Time has been a friend to me…except for being stuck in this Time…

How about you, Friend? I’m going to relax a second…and then let this line rhyme.

Been working for awhile…

Still have many reasons to “Smile”…

Not really ready to call it quits…yet…

But…Ready to take an indefinite break…you can bet!

It is time to leave my boots at the door…and find a nice pair of sandals to wear.

It is time to sit down for a cup of coffee…on the deck…in the cool country air.

I’m not saying I wouldn’t look back…but I’d stop looking so much forward.

Time goes by…much too quick…Need to slow down what I’m racing towards!

Want the biggest decision…that I ever have to do…

Is to figure out which trail in the woods…I want to walk through.

And the hardest work I do all day…

Is loading up my Tractor…with a few bales of hay.

Not to go feed a ton of livestock…that sounds like a lot of work to me…

But…enough to supplement…a couple of Horses…roaming around my property.

Be kind’a nice if there was a great fishing pond nearby…or even a Lake…

I’d launch my boat from the shoreline…and be on my own time…for Heaven’s sake.

an ‘ol timey Red Farmall Tractor

I’d have me an ‘ol timey Red Farmall Tractor…for chores around the place…

Hook up a “Brush Hog” to it…maybe come Spring…Till me a few rows of “Maize”.

Sit down for Supper with my wife…out on the deck…as the Sun slowly sets…

Work real hard at seeing how much more relaxed I can get.

Get up…on a Fall cool Texas morn…and drive the Tractor out to the edge of my land…

Just to watch the day unfold and see how it’s progessin’…and enjoy the Time at hand.

Yep…that’s my plan for now…and I’m planning on sticking to it…

When the Time is right…Guarantee you…I’m going to do it!

Working at this very moment towards that goal…right at this very minute…

So that I can spend some Time at that future place…without Working one bit.

But I share all this with you…not to go on and on about my dream…

We all have places we want to go…Places we want to be…so it would seem.

No…I mention these things to help me believe further that this will happen…

Not just in some “fairy tale” dream…I have briefly while I’m nappin’.

And because there will come a time and place…Oh yeah, there will come a day…

Where that place is where you find me…This is where the Tractor rides away!

Thank you very much for reading this one…and for the hope that I may attain this future of peace and tranquility…while riding around on my Tractor!

A nice write, Steve. I did the tree change awhile back onto a 40 acre piece of land…lived off grid even for a few years. It is certainly something to aspire to and I hope you get your dream and that red tractor.

Hey John…Thanks for reading this one and for the aspiring hope that I will be able to have the dream happen…along with that “gloriously” red tractor.
      Best Regards.

It is great to have a dream to work towards. I always believe in following a dream. If you can dream it, you can do it. Great work on this piece. I love it.

I swear my dreams are similar. But instead of farmland I love pine forest. Close enough. I hope you are doing well. Jamie
