Stalked By Evil
Stalked By Evil
Peering through the curtain,
Careful to stay hidden.
Dusk descends
But it isn’t comforting.
Darkness hides the evil
That lurks –
Waiting patiently,
Hiding in the trees,
Within the rafters,
Scampering across the roof.
I try to fight sleep.
What happens when eyes close?
It moves closer – unseen,
Into the house,
Moving things,
Watching as I sleep.
I feel helpless and alone.
Is it one or many?
I can’t say.
But I know it’s evil,
Satan sent.
I’m sure it wants me dead,
To die in my sleep,
To steal my soul.
I try to get help,
But no one believes me.
The police think I’m crazy.
Each time they come
It hides, silent and still,
Until I am alone again.
To fill me with torment and dread.
The doctor had my medical record
Up on his computer screen.
I saw the word “paranoid”,
He wants me to see a shrink.
I am so tired,
My eyes blink shut,
My head slumps.
I bob it up again,
Willing my eyes to open –
Temporarily.
My head falls back
Onto the pillow.
I can fight no longer,
Giving into sleep,
And the terror that stalks me.
I am at it’s mercy.
Will I wake,
Or be taken in my sleep?
These questions
Are beyond me now,
Until the morning comes
-Or not! –
