Let’s Head Back to the Beach

Let’s Head Back to the Beach
I. Head Back
Tired of crowded beach
to find a space for sunlight
a long line of flower prints
let the dry sand fall
from one foot to another
one leaves water or enters
While we bath in sun
imagine beaches of Troy
pretend we are Achilles
arriving on beach
after a trek through the waves
accept this last walk to war
Place book on my chest
close eyes in hot midday dream
of lovers frolic in the waves
to replay trailer
“From Here to Eternity”
twice behind my eyelids shade
II. To the Beach
Today maybe one
of those worry free beach days
where everyone plays in waves
to dive from the rocks
where one child remains frightened
stands still while others take plunge
Let us move ourselves
from a boat to the water
from the water to the sand
boat motor fills air
not sounds from Battles of Troy
children building sand castles
III.
Write about the beach
metaphor for summertime
the lake seems so calm today
waves on pebbles roar
sweet is the morning beach air
retreats at winds end
A worn out beach book
tattered cover sand on prose
not able to remain dry
yet still readable
while worlds frolic in a tide
find a story to escape
Never too much beach
we are tied to the water
drawn by physiology
the need to cool down
to find cool quieting thoughts
as feet sink into wet sand
IV.
A lake with beach faith
morning sun reflects off splash
made by navigating wake
near a Pelican
floating a flimsy boat
a child begins his journey
Hemingway visits
his visions of war to shore
an engrossed reader reads on
directly in path
of the midday summer sun
or a splash from active surf
A poem of sand
along the shore people meet
put up shade place their beach chairs
come join us on beach
take a quick nap in the sun
while our children take a dip

Great poetry, Jamie. I love how you reference writing and written works in with the descriptions of spending time at the beach. I good read.
A lovely day at the beach where the mind can soar like seagulls above. Great work, Jamie. I enjoyed this day at the beach.
