Time to Dream of Garden
Time to Dream of Garden
I.
A new apple tree
in the center of my yard
it is good to want
Stock up on clay pots
buy organic potting soil
choose which bulbs to plot
Prepare to lay mulch
wake the wheelbarrow’s nap
move around smooth stone
This place I return
smell of soil and smell of spring
a pail for a seat
A list in Haiku
remember smallest detail
begin with the rake
Remove winter muck
start the work on raised planters
must pot Roses first
Fill large out door pots
with plenty of fresh pot soil
some composted mulch
Put on you work gloves
without last years weeds and thorns
rebuild space for green
II.
Mix my annuals
find home for returning bulbs
and perennials
Try luck with lettuce
variety of squashes
and decorative gourd
Throw some herbs in mix
along with garlic and fresh chives
a potato bag
Turn limited space
source of delicious fresh food
potted around yard
Time to get out there
manage time wisely again
build home for seedlings
Before the first sprout
this year will be the key year
change in production
To negotiate
a wise water strategy
previous sprinklers
Become mapmaker
who needs the light who does not
diversified lot
III.
Bland suburban stone
into one large vegetable
and flower garden
Here in my garage
seeds pots and gear I collect
throughout Winter months
The sunshine calls me
the soil is waiting for hand
a need to garden
These lines motivate
to set the hoe and shovel against wall
for an early start
With morning jacket
hot morning coffee held tight
a goal and a plan
Prepare garden space
based on homemade schematic
a dream of success
April is the time
when Earth wakes from its slumber
to share gift of fruit
Maybe Tomatoes
joyful possibilities
within every seed

Thank you, Jamie, for sharing your gardening tasks with us. I love gardening and this is a delightful read. Well done, my friend.
Phyllis I already planted some bulbs and flowers and made a little succulent garden. I fear the vegetables are a little lacking this year except for tomato. Jamie
