Keeper of my Heart…

You and I,
through all the seasons,
together since the day,
you came my way.
One dance and I fell,
one look and I knew,
together we would be walking –
for many years to come.

As the years drifted by,
silver strands in our hair,
I knew that forevermore you’d be –
the keeper of my heart.
We never needed words,
to express the love we felt,
it was there when we held hands
and there when we shared kisses –
dancing in the dark beneath a shining moon.

Through all the seasons that came and went,
hand in hand we’d stray,
I’d never feel scared or lost,
as long as you were the keeper of my heart.
Close beside you, our hearts beat in unison,
our days so bright come rain or shine,
as long as you were mine
and I was yours –
we might trip and fall but on and on we’d go.

It was in the summer,
that you went away,
it was not fair,
not while the flowers were still in bloom.
Not while scented roses,
were on the vine.
You left with a piece of my heart,
that is yours to keep forever,
taking it with you over the rainbow.
However, I knew,
that your love still shined through
and until the day we would meet again –
you’d still and always be the keeper of my heart.
