Frozen Hearts
Frozen Hearts
Like flowing rivers,
frozen from the kiss of the NorthWind,
like large snowflakes falling in June,
so frozen hearts are caged –
no longer free and filled with love.
Like ice, that never melts,
even beneath the summer sun,
days that fly by with no laughter or fun,
like walking barefoot through drifts of snow,
so frozen hearts-
love no longer know.
Like rainy summers,
meadows filled with wilting flowers,
no full moon sailing by,
dark clouds hide the sun,
heartache after heartache –
frozen hearts that cannot mend.
To them sad letters I send,
of golden days,
that just faded away,
lost their glitter and sparkle,
from love songs to dirges,
of shining memories that bring tears,
frozen hearts –
full of sorrow silently sigh.
Oh, but when there come springs,
with scented lilacs blooming,
southern breezes,
that unchain rivers frozen in time
and let them run free to the sea,
then frozen hearts begin to thaw,
begin to beat again,
as true beauty surrounds them.
Begin the melodies,
of yesteryears,
of smiles once left behind
and love returns once more –
to the most distrusting heart.
Then it needs an artist,
someone who is oh, so true,
to bring forth the colors,
making them bright once more.
To paint scenes,
of lovers from the past,
to make what the heart,
has captured – last.
