The Art of Baking Bread

The Art of Baking Bread
I.
In time of isolation
some search their soul to create
a great literary work
or just bake some bread.
In honesty the latter
will take as much time to learn
lessons on patience and love
warmed and with butter.
Start with finding Baker’s Yeast
to brew activated batch
to watch quick fermentation
as bubbles foam.
Prove the yeast is viable
before mixing with the flour
little salt and lots of love
to blend into dough.
Simple three ingredient loaf
as we wander down this path
a mission to learn to bake
with our extra time.
Sometimes my mother made bread
a complicated event
that requires measurement
childhood attention.
II.
Warm and delicious product
when removed from the oven
to cool on a cooling rack
with butter nearby.
From San Francisco Sourdough
to a medley of wild grains
with cinnamon and raisins
history of recipes.
Few things more satisfying
appearance of a homemade bread
a rich slice of real life
on a regular.
Simple routine to baking
used by all young homemakers
create a well kneaded dough
fold to you and down.
Bring your dough to rise in fridge
no need for a shaded warm
place to begin upward move
into the heavens.
Try the bake some store some way
with goal of bread every
day along with bread today
oh this simple joy.
III.
Good understanding of yeast
its growth a help in success
realize it’s alive
and with love will thrive.
Dry Yeast requires its warm
Active Yeast room temperature
compressed refrigerated
never salt nor oil.
Only the sweetest sugar
for all the little critters
where by living their best lives,
mouth watering bread.
The gluten in the flour
second key ingredient
there’s nothing wrong with whole wheat
with all purpose white.
Then maybe one day I’ll see
when our world is safe again
a collection of fresh bread
in baker’s window.
But for now let’s fill our homes
with the smells of fresh baked breads
to feed our community
and our wanting hearts.

Most creative with wonderful memories of freshly baked bread I can almost smell the scent in the air.
Ah! Fresh baked bread is so wholesome. I made some just the other day to serve with ham and bean soup. Heavenly tastes! Love your verses on homemade bread, Jamie. Well done, my friend.
