Into the Night

Into the Night by Kurt James

We all in our own way seek the answers to all that bother us. It is built within us to try to understand what makes us all human. When our mind is searching for clarity, we do things that help ease that process. Some take rides in the country and others try to drown their unanswerable questions in booze. For me it is a walk under the heavens and the stars and the moon. I seek solace walking into the night.

Into the Night
Restless and looking for clarity I walk into the night,
Strolling in the cold night air looking for second sight.
Confusing thoughts that wander here and there in the day,
Under the stars and in the darkness of the nightfall they seem to fade away.
I am always a whirlpool of emotions as I wander in the darkness,
The icy eventide wind helps with my thoughts, deeds, and inwardness.
Walking into the twilight a bark of a dog breaks the wall of stillness,
From a nearby house on the wind is a couple in an arguing distress.
Makes me realize I am not the only one that has worries of their own,
As I continue into the dark looking for answers and all alone.
Maybe, it is just the nocturnal whispers formed in the wind,
Or the rain of lights from the stars above that help me mend.
Not sure why it works, sometimes I just have to go into the night,
Gather in the silence of moon and the stars—I feel their invite.
It helps to have conversations with the midnight sky and the moon,
For it is in the darkness there is harmony and I feel more in tune.
Restless and looking for clarity I walk into the night,
Strolling in the cold night air looking for second sight.

The rugged beauty of the Colorado Rockies foothills shaped Kurt James’ life from birth, with the ever-present sight of snow-capped peaks and the constant whisper of the wind. Having spent twenty years amidst the wide-open spaces of South Dakota, Kurt’s connection to his family’s western Kansas heritage remains strong; he recalls the tallgrass prairie and the endless blue skies. Over time, Mr. James developed a deep appreciation for the landscapes and history of the American West, spending countless hours exploring its rugged beauty and studying its unique culture. The Denver Post, PM Magazine, and 9NEWS, all well-known Denver, Colorado media sources, have highlighted the powerful and evocative work of poet and novelist Kurt James. Focusing on Old West history, Kurt contributes feature articles to HubPages and Creative Exiles, exploring the eerie silence of ghost towns, the thrilling tales of outlaws and gunfighters, and the evocative imagery found in the Rocky Mountains. Kurt’s early admiration for writers such as Jack London, Louis L’Amour, and Max Brand played a significant role in honing his skills as a storyteller. Twenty-one books (and counting!) transport readers to the Colorado Rockies and the Old West through Kurt’s vivid descriptions; the feel of rough-hewn cabins, the sounds of coyotes howling under starry skies, and the smells of campfire smoke and sagebrush are all palpable. Find Kurt James novels, short stories, reference books, and poetry—published by Midnight Wind Publishing—in print copies or digital downloads at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Goodreads, and other excellent bookstores; explore the diverse range of formats available. Currently in production - The 10th book in his Rocky Mountain Series - Lee Moomaw Former Lawman. Kurt is a proud member of the Western Writers of America, a group that values storytelling.

Thank you Phyllis for the wonderful comment – I do wear my emotions of my sleeve for all to see. It is my beautiful blessing and my worse curse at the same time.

Yeah something majestic about that evening velvet, it gives clarity a new level. I must agree that I as well am able to think more clearly staring into the endless abyss that is the night sky. For me its even better if there is a crispness to the air. Makes me feel so alive. Nice work Kurt as always.
