In the Morning When I Write (Finding a Place and Time to Create)

In the Morning When I Create
I. Mornings I Create
Usually dark
when my feet hit the cold floor
slowly open eyes.
In my morning write,
a bond found with my words
so many stories.
To create new worlds
to transcribe what my eyes see,
to feel, hear, and smell.
On my morning chair
a schoolboy staying up late
to read to the end.
I am learning still
as books begin to stack up
by the light, the chair.
I promise myself
this seat on comfortable chair
coffee and pencil.

II. Create Stories
The pain of backaches
open my eyes to mornings
my mind on stories.
A perfect mixture
of colors on my palette
a flick of my wrist.
Erase the chalkboard
the whiteness of a blank stare
empty closed notebooks.
This corner of me
will find Compadres to share
morning coffee talk.
By Fiddle Leaf Fig
I’ve watered in different homes
these relationships.
Morning rushes in
creativity begins
pencil to paper.

III. Write Thoughts
Surrounded by words
which remind me of the time
a hike with my friends.
Sometimes roam the cage
the same path the Panther takes
at our local zoo.
To solve these puzzles
the goal of all this routine
playing some word games.
Sometimes to research
the rich meanings behind words
or our history.
Back outdoors again
with swashbuckling action
try to imagine.
Journey to Venice
to ride a Gondola
never leave my chair.
Before the laundry
doing the chores of my day
when evening comes.

IV. Write (Create)
From my Lazy Boy
Art History collects dust,
books under small lamp.
I sit and watch light
as if refraction itself
produces bold thought.
A slow moving film
a morning stream of conscience
where to go from here?
With fresh coffee brewed
attention on this moment
faith in thought as word.
Stare past antique lamp
through a window towards the sky,
porch, tree, then blue.
Illuminated
energy towards each project
harnessed, disciplined.

Jamie, it is amazing how you can skillfully tell a story with Haiku. I enjoyed this post and through your words get a strong visual of your day’s routine. Very well done. Take care.
I agree with Phyllis. These are some superb haiku skills here Jamie. So many ways to bring upon the writing spirits. Excellent work my friend.
I have to agree with Phyllis and Paul in regard to your use of Haiku to tell a story. You have become an expert at this jamie. I have written a few haiku but have not yet perfected it to this level. Good job.
Awesome Jaime and very skilled…
Thanks Phyllis, John, Paul, and Kurt for stopping by for a read and leaving a little inspiration. Jamie
