Twisted Metal…recent offerings

Twisted Metal
Twisted Metal

Some recent offerings…

Twisted Metal

Twisted metal bent to breaking,
fractured aching to imminent loss,
as thoughts amass in flesh forsaking,
imperfections profound in cost,
glass, all shattered weeps in petrol,
leaks in neon reflection and fright,
as the night in soulful screams
ignite bloody and horrendous dreams,
so strewn in metal servings,
red splattered thoughts stirring.

Necrotic meat, dim lit and still,
contrasts the orange-suited frenzy,
siren hymns and flash-torch glimmers,
lines that criss-cross the shadows,
and crushed metal holds hostage still,
trapped and pain distilled in melodious pleas,
bring hope to its knees
in black viscous bloodletting,
spilled with such ease when metal pleases
to tear apart a moment.

Air thick and haemorrhaging,
the gathering expenditure of prayers,
like sparks from the flue,
alight and ascending to dare
the will of a fated view,
as pain swirls like an icy breeze,
frosted resolves and painful pleas
met with impartial despair,
cold eyes and time’s dull stare,
what will eventuate?

Tedious Watching

In slow succession
the waning autumn leaves curl and fall,
earthy rusted hues to a frosted death,
clawed reaching branches as silhouettes
upon a disconcerted sky, and
watch I may the transformation,
living greens to dark decay,
as I lament death.

Sad this malicious infecting season,
robbing life in cycled reason
yet cold my chilled and pale flesh,
tethered to the swell of dank and wet,
bereft in brighter season’s play,
so dull and grey this numbing bite,
as laden cloud and misty sights
can but lower mood.

As winter swallows certitude,
a weighted blanket falls into view,
and thoughts spill from pillars high
to rest like contaminated leaves to die,
and by fireside my point of view apart,
the scene too wary to be a part,
languishes in my halcyon day’s lament,
time a slow and tedious watching, regret.

Death – an ever present part of life in one form or another. Very well-written and emotive verses, Tony. Your winters are harsher than ours, but ours was more harsh than usual. We were so glad to see spring finally get here. Stay warm, healthy, and in good spirit. Take care.

Much appreciated Phyllis, yes harsher seasons seems to be a theme. One can expect anything as global warming creates change. Take care

Tony I enjoy poems with strong seldom used metaphors like car wrecks. Great poetic flare, expertly done! Your first poem immediately brought my senses back to moment of a car wreck. A shock to our system that is never forgotten. Jamie
