Fairy Lights
Fairy lights,
just twinkling,
upon the night air
and lilting laughter,
was what he saw and heard –
whenever she was near.
Soon to him,
she became so dear,
the girl with sparkling green eyes
and hair the color of an orange sunset.
Love grew,
days found them longing
and nights spent dreaming.
it was the nights,
that drew him closer to her,
as she softly spoke,
beneath the twinkling stars,
bathed in the golden glow of the moon,
in the distance,
he’d see what appeared to him,
a string of fairy lights,
followed by lilting laughter.
She always held his hand,
tighter at these moments,
her sweet kiss,
given with trembling lips.
He never truly understood,
where she had come from,
but the love he felt,
was strong and true.
Seasons changed,
one for another,
until the last autumn leaf fell.
She simply kissed him
and walked away.
There seemed to be,
nothing more to say.
Just a love that had brightly shone,
then simply faded away.
still on frosty winter nights,
while snowflakes danced,
upon the frosty air,
he would see those fairy lights
and hear the lilting laughter.
It was then that he wondered,
if her love had been heaven sent,
to fill his heart and soul,
with the hope of true love.
Leaving him with sparkling memories forevermore,
leaving the door open for true love to capture his heart.
