Winter’s grip they say ?
Winter’s grip …

A lot is spoken of winter’s grip
yet for me to understand
when the icy grip lends its vice
across the open land
I chose to relish in it’s solitude while
many hide in the tender mercies of home
I’ll take the wind in the high pines
and never feel alone
Or the warm breath of a lover beneath the cabin quilts
her cold feet and giggling sound
While I dread walking to the wood stove
to bring some warmth around
Now I stand in the ice covered forest trees
as cracking branches shed the clinging weight
And dream about that woman
waiting for me up late
Arriving back at the cabin she sits with a book
a sofa and a blankets warm embrace
As I shed my outdoor clothing and rush in
beside her warm and tender place
Of winters grip they say find a good woman
and harness yourself to her love
But I say I already have because I wrote that line
and here we are with the grace from above

Beautiful poetry. Thank you Ed. Jamie
That special connection with nature and the peaceful quiet is so beautiful. To have someone waiting for you back in the warmth of the cabin is wonderful. Lovely poem, Ed.
Love this one Ed. I for one love the winter and the silence of the falling snow.
Jamie , Thank you kind sir !
Hi Phyllis , Somehow that companionship over the years naturally gets strained and we forget the simple beauty of just spending simple time together , its hard to rekindle as well . Thank you for sharing .
Kurt , I’m about to finish a lot of reading and get to your books , finally ! Thank you sir !
