What sense of peace before me
Converse with nature’s soul …
Nature will never ever fail you my son
go there it awaits you and your needful nurturing
a balm created by the hand of the god
just for you and you alone
My daughter why haven’t you returned to the outdoors
that place that captivated you as a child
that caress that yearns from within your bosom
it needs you too you know
Today I drove by the house trailer in the desert
in the magic of native America
I saw the satellite TV on the wall and empty swing set in the yard
right now I’m wondering why
The sidewalks are empty in the city
the lights blazing in the tower of man
Why are you there in the comfort of a boxy room
when the quiet silence of the park awaits
Today I will forgo the ills of mankind and stand beside
the towering white pines
And I will pray for you there on the highway
as engines race and tires whine
Come to me my love out here in the warm embrace of the lake
I dreamed of you from the time of being a child
when we embraced here in the cool waters
and created children together
What wonders are exposed from deep within as we go outside
and converse with nature’s soul
go there now my friend
come my love
throw away those trappings of man

Beautiful work, Ed. You are so in touch with nature’s beauty and it shows in this poem. I love this verse.
You’ve touched on a key reason why so many people are lost in today’s world – they don’t understand that the world is more than a video screen and texting; the secret to life is found in the great outdoors!
I experience a similar experience multiple times a day. My children are bombarded with entertainment that has no physical or social value. It is alarming and almost impossible to avoid or break free from. We need to reconnect where we have disconnected. Thank you for sharing this well written poem. Jamie
Phyllis , I am” in touch ” or always try to be at least . That’s so important for us poets , I gauge good writing by connections of nature and writer . Thank you !
RJ, You are SO right ! Thank you my friend !
Jamie , You are so correct , Grab those kids and make them experience nature to some extent !
You have the connection , pass it on ! Yet it IS so difficult to gift it to the kids !
Thank you !
