I stand alone
I Stand Alone …

Against the strengths of eternal tides and
against the winds of time
against all the transgressions of man
whatever he has in mind
I stand against the anger of the Gods
the goddess’ emotions and her heartbreaking wrath
I stand against the very ocean that I love
wherever the tides chosen path
I watch the whale pods as they pass the dolphins
and sharks as they swim so slowly away
I stand gazing upon the geese in flight when
November gives way
Do I wonder after a lover you ask
do I dream in the darkness of the night
Or gaze upon the passing of a woman
in dawns early light
I will never know of a partner nor stand beside
that lover in pride
for I do love to stand here alone
in solitude I abide

Wonderful verse and love the imagery here. I just love to be by the seas and in solitude to think.
A lovely verse, Ed. Your imagery is so good that I could feel the cool air, smell the ocean, hear the waves … I love it. Very well penned.
Beautifully written and a joy to read. Thank you Ed your verse certainly touches on a topic I understand and your metaphor is wonderful. Jamie
Thank you Rasma , We must find our peace wherever we can ! No?
Phyllis , Thank you , Isn’t life beautiful when we can sit within the embrace of solitude when solitude is what we are handed in any given moment ?
Jamie , WE are lucky when we feel complete ,Thank you for sharing all this !
The imagery is wonderful, Ed, and so can solitude be. I can be quite happy for long periods on my own as well. The lighthouse reminded me of a wonderful but sad movie I watched recently on Netflix called The Light Between Oceans…about a man who returned from WW1 to take up a position as a lighthouse keeper.
