When The Shutdown Finally Ends

When the shutdown finally ends

Your government will make amends

Issue checks for payments due

And yes, illegals will get paid too

Ironic just doesn’t do it justice

Our immigration problem is chronic

More than an elephant in the room

If left uncheck; it means our doom

A sovereign nation must have borders

Ignore the words of fake reporters

Follow the money and you will see

An open border is the key

Government money flowing

Just watch where it’s going

Services paid by taxpayer dollars

Taken from our sons and daughters

Wealthy donors get the contracts

Keep things quiet; fudge the facts

Housing, food, and medicine

Frenzied feeding for those benjamin’s

Low cost labor that amount to slaves

All the taxes those employers save

Double-dipping our American money

Like the Pooh bear chasing honey

Their politicians bought and paid for

Without fail they need an open door

So another tactic, another delay

Can’t let the President get his way

They’ve been fighting tooth and nail

Many would love to see him jailed

Inventing crimes that just won’t stick

Rhetoric that would make you sick

Fake collusion just another illusion

Party politics embrace the confusion

He’s the voice we’ve been waiting for

A stealth fighter in the political war

Making sure Americans are first

Not an act; speaks unrehearsed

Working hard for you and me

Don’t believe me; just look and see

Politicians hanging on the beach

A luxurious life beyond our reach

Sipping drinks while on our dime

Shouldn’t that be called a crime?

We have to work without delay

But elected people get to play?

Enough to prove that it’s a game

All that matters is placing blame

On-line politicking and media fights

Casually skipping over the Bill of Rights

The Constitution loses meaning

Angry voices and continued screaming

When it’s over; this so-called shutdown

Hope this nation is still around

Maybe a new wall or border fence

Perhaps a President named Mike Pence

Perhaps another manufactured scandal

Or another public crisis handled

Wake up people, use your common sense

America is calling; join the defense!

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all. I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed. I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another. I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me. I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.

“America is calling;” – can we hear her now? I hear loud and clear and your verse motivates me to do something productive. Thank you. Your words of wisdom are spot on, Ralph. Great piece.

Well said Ralph! If only all Americans would read this and heed the advice so poetically given…

Very good, Ralph, and so true. It’s hard to believe that we have drifted so far afield that merely controlling who comes into our country has become ‘immoral and racist’. Well done, my friend.

Well expressed Ralph. I won’t pretend to know what your country is going through as you all know much better than I. I just hope the situation is sorted out soon and life returns to normal or as close to that as possible. Like him or not the people need to support the elected leader or nothing will ever get done. Powerful poetry.

Thank you Ralph for your poetry. Being able to share our political viewpoints, in any format, is what makes us free. Thank you. Jamie
