That’s All He Knew
The years they’d taken their toll,
love had come and gone,
once too often –
for it to ease his mind.
When she’d come along,
it was like the sun,
coming out to shine.
After the grayest of days,
their early years,
were full of discovery.
Hand holding and kisses,
there were no tears,
there was no time for them,
just too few hours,
to spend together
or so it seemed.
Love had come,
so unexpectedly,
suddenly she was his morning sun
and the one he sought –
when day was done.
Then came the storms,
that seemed to follow them,
the troubled times –
when nothing seemed right.
But she swore her love
and cried when he wanted to leave.
He’d sigh and he’d stay,
because he loved her
and that was all he knew.
Happy days that seemed like heaven
and cloudy days –
that seemed like an eternity.
Over and over again,
until he didn’t know,
what would come in the end,
he held her when she cried,
comforted her and forgave her.
He loved her
and that’s all he knew.
Oh, so many times,
when he’d swear,
this was the last time,
when there was one argument,
too many –
she never seemed satisfied.
But love him?
Yes, she swore she did,
so he’d long decided,
he couldn’t live without her,
he’d do everything,
to turn things around,
because he loved her –
that’s all he knew.

A bittersweet poem. I guess a lot of relationships are like this. A good read Rasma.
Thank you, John.
Like so many relationships, Rasma. Well penned and expressed.
Thank you, Tony.
In hopes that love will conquer all. If you can see past all the little squabbles of a relationship and understand that last few lines in your poem. Love should conquer all. Nice work
Thank you, Paul.
