Life Is But Perception…
Life is but perception…
Those around us see
But through eyes painted
With colors from different palettes
Brushstrokes of unseen direction
Oil, water, and acrylic mediums
All the influences
And avoidances
Like the stiff brown paper
Of tightly wrapped packages
Hiding everything
Except shape and form
Thick tape and twine;
The layers of conventional thinking
Safe thoughts
Perception an expectation
Conformity and correctly applied
Until every fold is secure
Each crease reinforced
And escape becomes impossible
Such is the puzzle
A cube with many sides
The level and fulcrum
Shifting paradigms
Choosing existence rather than living
Safely watching from a distant space
Surrounded by covered canvases
Scissors evident
Yet never exercising
A single unveiling
What lies hidden beneath stays hidden
The pleasant fiction
A mortality of expectations
Preordained and never challenged
While that which lives in absolutes;
The truth of clarity
Unclouded vision
Unbiased thought
Noble pursuits trapped in twine
Brown paper
The indoctrination
Enslaves perception
To a life of darkness

Nicely penned. We have all have our own pursuits and wants in life and we never know what tomorrow will bring or if there will be a tomorrow.
Very thought provoking piece, Ralph. Life is full of choices and perceptions – you have a good grasp of it. Well penned and an enjoyable read.
