October in pastel
October in pastels …
The evenings longer now as October calls on me again laying fragile all emotion
introspect retrospect or just plain melancholy
Oh but let October spend her days in pastels as she wishes
for I’ve never seen a more dressy lady
The gales waiting on November turn up what leaves do remain
the poplars chatter among themselves as the lady’s will
let them be for they will leave us all too soon
and once again winter arrives at our door
I think once again of youthful days and the scent of crayola afternoons
and multi colors of construction paper
The scent of white paste and at recess piles of browning leaves
afterwards to kick our way home
Those days are long long gone but if there is a god and but one
more cycle of colors and seasons where children squeal play and screech
down the road at the elementary school
I will be happy once again
And yet even as winter arrives there is a magic there as well
cold winds and blowing ice or snow
reach out your tongue as a child might do
and let your imagination go like the children’s laugh
But tonight there is a fire and a piano and that’s almost all I need
a dream and a love at my side
The dream is of more tomorrows as mellow as these
and love beyond whatever end arrives

Autumn is my favorite time of year and I would hat to live in a world without Octobers. Ed This piece is a wonderful tribute to all that is in what we call Autumn.
A beautifully visual filled with reminisces of changing season’s. I too love Fall it’s one of my favorite season’s for sure. I love the photo you chose to highlight your prose, perfectly chosen my friend. To have your piano and love by your side, what more can a man ask for? Nicely expressed Ed in your usual visual penned style.
Lovely work Ed. All the seasons come with their own individual beauty but I too love autumn the most, the colour and cycles of transformation so uniquely heart-warming. Some great imagery and nicely penned my friend. Very much enjoyed. Cheers!
Beautiful imagery here Ed, as you describe Autumn (your October) perfectly. I could vividly imagine all that you describe in this wonderful poem. Great work.
