My Friend the Forest

It felt like I was in another world …

I hadn’t had the time,

to go back to visit for a while.

Suddenly I found myself straying,

to the place that gave me peace,

that let me step into another world.

A magical world meant just for me,

I stood at the edge

and I knew he was waiting

and then I was enveloped,

by the tall pines and firs,

by the birches –

growing here and there.

My friend the forest,

welcomed me back again.

As the wind whispered,

through the treetops,

I could almost hear him sigh,

I had returned

and he was glad.

I went farther,

shadows following me,

the rays of the sun,

from above,

dappling everything below –

in specks of gold.

The pine needle carpet ,

rolled out just for me,

leading me farther and farther

and it felt like I was in another world –

where peace and good-will existed.

I went to my favorite spot,

by the babbling brook,

as it flowed through the forest

and its babbling was at first met with silence.

Then the birds in the tall pines and firs,

began to reply in song,

it was the sweetest music to my ears.

When I had to go back,

the late afternoon sun,

had made the light,

through the trees,

seem so mellow

and I found my way out.

It was like stepping out of a door,

into reality,

my friend the forest,

bid me farewells,

for he knew,

that I’d be back –

some other day.
