Lily Pads

Lily pads standing tall
reaching through the shadows,
yearning blooms to sun’s allure,
petals opened yet quite demure,
asking for respite
from waters coldest night
to day’s eloquent refrain,
to warm their yellow hearts
and in restraint,
a humble thanks, impart.’
So green their thoughts,
so cool their calm and splendour,
umbrellas broad in reflection’s awe,
such an amenable demeanour,
striving tall and in bloom much more,
light attuned and growth assumed
as vast there marshland sprawl,
propagating all
that suits the shallows,
a forest of green so sturdy yet delicate.
So many pads,
but most atop the water,
like stepping stones for frogs and birds,
islands made to order,
but these near the shore are more enthralled,
a will to give that extra more
and rise to the heaven’s waiting light,
and bask under sun’s delight,
the water far beneath,
and flowers even keep above their flight,
to adorn and crown with pristine white
a lily’s gift to sight.

Lovely verse, Tony. I often imagine the fae romping on the lily pads with delightful glee. I am becoming quite fond of your poetry on image style – it is very pleasing and well done. Take care dear poet.
Thanks, Phyllis, yes it works and I’ve had success very quickly on Minds.com. In contrast to here, I’ve had 80,000 views in just over a month. I’ve always loved the opportunity of choosing photos for the posts here, but embedding them as one expression is another dimension of creativity. So glad you’re enjoying them. Take care.
