Those Walls We Face
Formidable, the strife striking pose,
like walls of stone, set thick and cold,
and we may cower it their shadows,
when opposed we are,
but giving credence to their iron will
helps not our cause,
and yielding worse before the war.
Seems daily this opposition declares itself,
as if my will somehow eroded,
a foregone conclusion coded to dispense of me,
a collateral damage to some degree,
even before I stand and consider,
then if I do, the ruse becomes clear,
my mood austere.
Walls suddenly seem defective,
mere bricks atop an intention,
and I with no fear accosted, deliberate,
mediate a solution, a way around,
and soon those impenetrable walls fall,
my will far greater without fear,
and their undoing suddenly clear.
Challenges appear, in a repetitive fashion,
their solutions my learning,
their attitude my discerning,
and all the time, facing them far easier,
ignoring their smoke and mirror dance,
their smug trance of compliance,
rising fear and without defiance, relenting.
Instead, I take their measure,
shrug and face them complete,
and in that stance, they cower from my acceptance,
no fear to rise and tip the scales,
rather I work through them pragmatically,
and soon enough they’re done,
fading to obscurity.
Formidable they may appear,
these problems we face,
yet they grace us with knowledge and gifts,
if only we would face them unperturbed,
see them as just movement and adapting,
the consideration of change,
and not some impenetrable wall.
Standing in the shadow of these walls
can be unsettling,
yet we may bring the light
and cease their hold, just with our attitude,
our approach to these challenges of life,
when we negate our fears
and learn to trust ourselves.

Those seemingly powerful walls can be daunting indeed. You know that trusting yourself gives you the way around – good on you, Tony. Great work on this life lesson. Take care dear friend.
Thanks, Phyllis, glad you enjoyed it. Take care dear poet.
