The Delusion of Honesty

Children speak the truth in their heart,
for they have not yet learned
the duplicitous face of lies,
when ploys of deception chosen
render advantages to an ego.
Naivety is a blessed state,
a pure and untainted statement of right,
with a clarity that pales all else,
and within a complex adult life,
is rarely seen.
Honesty is far from just an idea,
it is a way of life,
a transparency that elevates a consciousness
to higher grounds of acceptance and understanding,
and therefore perception.
Children see honesty as natural,
and only deviate as they realise the power of deceit,
of manipulation and the need for self-preservation,
the advantages offered under the guise of acceptance,
as they learn to fit into a corrupt world.
How cherished this natural honesty is,
when a being is so at ease with life,
there is no need for shielding,
no need for concerns of status, acceptance or position,
rather at peace with self, in its raw condition.
We add such complexity to our lives,
trying to placate adversity, gain acceptance
and to be seen as we would hope,
all for the satisfaction of an ego that may become the master
of a mind that needs nothing more than awareness.
Yet we lose this honesty so early,
it often becomes a lost memory,
so we indulge life with regimes of ego building
and self-preservation to placate our shortcomings
to be at ease with who we wish we were.

Honesty and truth – if one is honest and always truthful, there would be far less things to remember. Very good message, Tony, and well penned. Take care.
Thanks, Phyllis. Take care.
I always found that it was more difficult keeping up with the lie than to just tell the truth. I am a truth-sayer nowadays, it served no purpose conjuring up a lie. It makes me feel unclean inside. Sadly kids learn to lie to get out of trouble or to get over in life, and the corporate world encourages that behavior. I tell my kids that I would be less upset if they just tell the truth. Nice work my friend.
I agree, honesty is truth in life, any other way just creates delusions. Glad you appreciated the work, Paul. Take care, my friend.
