Those Sins Innate

Those Sins Innate
Those Sins Innate

The sin I carry is innate,
those deviations that are created by free will,
selfish ploys of shallow gain,
actions of desperate moves for stance and name,
and follow I do my ancestors,
trodden paths of recompense and pain,
in learning what life is,
the learning of the spirit,
the soul’s infinite journey of growth.

It is as if I know each time
I flounder in truth, make poor decisions
and as the sins rise I swallow,
not sympathize but watch
while I bear the brunt of this ruse
of understanding, wrongs marking
my demanding thirst for meaning:
I wish I could rescind the sins before they happen,
recognize in time the folly of my ways.

I am but human,
driven to test the waters of life’s unfurling,
and with knowledge come choices
that overcome those leanings,
as eventually, sins are far less crude,
simply betrayals of our moral compass,
the lewd side of a professed ineptness,
an ingrained shifting from normality,
and the eventual sting of complicity.

Age allows the dust to settle, the visions clear
and an increase in capacity to understand,
the extremes within which we reign,
the lives that entertain our growing souls,
with designated plans of experience,
and none of us are saints,
that would be a travesty of belief,
all capable of endless woes,
all sins and martyrs in relief.

My choices now are better,
my reactions far less pointed,
as I respond with a spiritual knowledge,
to undermine the sins innate
that have quelled my growing mind,
so I do not judge, but cannot abide deceptions,
and in later years arrived at a knowing,
that sins are just deviations of learning,
the seeds in a future of discerning.

Nicely penned with deep expression and knowledge of the ageing process. I have come to terms with ageing with dignity and good health. I hope it stays far from my door as they say the best is yet to come and I’m looking forward to the wisdom and peace that comes with it. My youth and folly has been left far behind me now, sowed my wild oats and then some:-) Now it’s peace, tranquility and surrender to a life of wiser decision making. Great piece my poetic friend, well said.

Glad you appreciated it Vincent, yes I’m much the same as you. Such a different perspective in age, and far more to appreciate and on far deeper levels. Take care, my friend.
