Living Without Contention

Living Without Contention
Living Without Contention

A breath of clarity, a sigh of release,
when forgiveness renders all grief null,
and weight suddenly escapes our being,
to laden perhaps another soul,
still bitter in conflict.

How we so often burden ourselves with pain,
hold onto betrayal and struggle,
when forgiveness can undo the rain,
the storms of discontent
that colour our day in greys.

No matter the impasse,
no matter the depth of hurt,
release is what we need to better understand
what within us needs healing,
and in forgiveness, find freedom.

It is far better to just cease conflict,
than to seek a victor,
for there is no real victory in conflict,
just loss and the sadness of cost.

And who is right or wrong,
has little to do with contention,
just a grumbling and ego lightning flashes,
and the indignity of being questioned.

True freedom is release from all contention,
and the understanding
of each view and perspective shown,
uniquely observed and expressed.

Should we choose to not contend,
then our heart remains loving,
and we become untouched by conflict,
watching it taint minds and circumstance.

In freedom we choose, in conflict we react,
and often reactions are innately poised,
habitually driven to repeat past struggle
and the pain that marks it.

When we choose to abstain,
to allow people to be who they are, regardless,
we remain in a stance of understanding,
not judging but with kindness removing contention
and in that, a non escalation, an ultimate peace.

The ego is a fragile entity,
its health and vulnerability our concern,
yet contending with others proves nothing,
for it is a hollow victory we seek.

I use to be filled with bitterness and anger over the loss of my family 20 years ago, but over time and forgiveness both to the perpetrator and me the victim I found a great release and freedom to move forward and put the pain behind me. Well penned my poetic friend. Cheers.

Yes, its the only way to be free and move forward. Forgiveness releases us from the past. I’m still being assaulted by people who know nothing of the truth and I can truly say my heart is untouched. I guess the hurt lingers but they are ignorant people and I am free of them. Thanks Vincent, for your support and friendship. Take care.
