It Speaks to Me

In purposed flight
I leave the bounds of mother earth,
into the vast unknown of space,
and the coldness of its emptiness held a bay,
as if I am encapsulated, my being resistant
to the forces I can feel and the distance
that implores my weightless form.
Through stars and galaxies I wade,
dipping my toes in gaseous clouds,
fiery forges of swirling possibilities,
explosions the epiphanies of life,
breathing matter, melding,
rejecting and forming anew
the expectations of beginnings.
I wince from deafening lights,
expanding flashes of destructive force,
then the gravitational reverse,
imploding densest matter,
the pull and tug of life an endless ebb and flow,
like a sea of shifting moods
ever changing with interludes
of crackling effusive lulls.
And still I travel on,
past endless spinning planets,
most crusted reds and greys, and solitary blues
infuse my mind with wonder, of other life,
and my body is so swiftly moving
as if distance were meaningless,
but still there is no end,
no change to this array of life’s pervading.
And then as silence whispers quietly,
I feel a slowing, a knowing I have arrived,
and in that moment
a warm and vital air surrounds me,
life a weightless cover,
and a radiance as a sun yet whiter, brighter
confronts me, and as I slow to a standstill,
the light enwraps me,
and draws me into its open arms.
I know not this experience,
of security, of warmth, of love’s undeniable pervasion,
and I cannot but relent my fears,
accept this occasion with gratitude,
and yet no voice explains, no being to reign over this,
my vision of paradise,
just a knowing that it awaits,
and I now know it speaks to me,
within eternity.
